Research infrastructures are facilities that provide resources and services for the research communities to conduct research and foster innovation in their fields.
With the Research Infrastructures Programme of Horizon Europe, the Commission continues to pursue the aim of endowing Europe with world-class research infrastructures, open and accessible to the best researchers from Europe and beyond, which are essential for the advancement of knowledge, technologies and their exploitation.
Main RI types of actions [also called Destinations]
• Developing, consolidating and optimising the European research infrastructures landscape, maintaining global leadership [INFRADEV]: aimed at implementing a strong European Research Area [ERA], of excellence and great impact, by reinforcing the capacities of Europe’s research infrastructures and their role at world level.
• Enabling an operational, open and FAIR EOSC ecosystem [INFRAEOSC]: with the aim of creating a trusted virtual environment, the European Open Science Cloud [EOSC], in support of Open Science and services accessible to researchers throughout Europe.
• Research infrastructure services to support health research, accelerate the green and digital transformation, and advance frontier knowledge [INFRASERV]: concerning access to services provided by research infrastructures enabling R&I addressing major societal challenges, as well as to support the advancement of frontier knowledge.
• Next generation of scientific instrumentation, tools and methods and advance digital solutions [INFRATECH]: aimed at enabling new discoveries and keep Europe’s RIs at the highest level of excellence, while paving the way to innovative solutions to societal challenges and new industrial applications, products and services.
• Network connectivity in research and education – enabling collaboration without boundaries [INFRANET]: providing high-bandwidth networks and network services to interconnect researchers, data and computing resources to allow scientists to conduct excellent research.
